Artificial intelligence is quickly and quietly transforming every industry – and home design is no exception. With major inspiration platforms like Pinterest and TikTok receiving backlash for being infiltrated with AI-generated content, and several home and design clients exploring how AI may affect their business – for better or for worse – Diffusion PR took a closer look at evolving consumer sentiment on these still-evolving technologies.

Our 2025 Home Inspiration Report found a fascinating tension: many Americans remain on the fence about integrating AI into such a personal, creative process, yet many others acknowledge the benefits.

The findings underscore a critical point for brands: consumers push back when AI feels inauthentic – but welcome it when it adds convenience, personalization or affordability.

For instance, many are curious but cautious – 1 in 4 Americans remain “on the fence” about using AI at any stage of the home design process. The most common use cases people would use AI for include experimenting with styles before committing (30%), exploring initial inspiration (30%) and optimizing layouts (28%), signaling the interest is there, but commitment is tentative.

And for those who have already tried it, the payoff is clear: 65% are satisfied with the results of using AI in a home project or purchase and 3 in 5 agree – or at least aren’t opposed – that AI-generated design suggestions can be just as creative as professional designers. This validation raises the question: what exactly do consumers want from the technology?
